 A Little Story On How I Got These Books

When I went to Florida in 1986 as a working student, I was given the task to go around the hotel and ask hotel guests to attend a sales seminar that promised to 5X their sales stats.

I wasn’t doing well at it. I was very shy back then. Then I saw this old man, in his 60’s lounging besides the pool. I mastered up the courage to approach him. He must have been watching me fail miserably for he smiled at me and asked me to sit down. I pulled a chair and sat beside him.

Then he said “tell your organization to pay for you to attend my seminar and I promise you, you will never fail in sales again”. I was dumbfounded! He probably saw how beet red I was.  So he smiled.

The guy lounging was Les Dane himself! He was very sweet and told me all kinds of sales stories.

I never did attend his seminar at that time, but he gave me his business card. It was a white stock with a simple LES DANE in the middle of the card in red ink and his phone number below it—nothing else. I kept it for the longest time, until my wallet was stolen.

A few years later, he came to Toronto and did a seminar which I attended.

It was the most educational sales seminar I have ever attended, with real techniques on how to handle different kind of customers and their objections.

In 1988, I was looking to purchase his book. I called several Toronto bookstores and none of them carried the book.   However, one of the storekeeper I spoke to suggested I call the printing house —Prentice Hall Publishing.

When I called Prentice Hall, I was told the book was out of print but they had a box of it at their warehouse. I immediately told them I would happily take it off their hands.
